San Andreas, CA…Meet Weeman (A060198), a male Australian Cattle Dog mix, about 2 years old and weighing 42 pounds. We first introduced Weeman several months ago, hoping someone would see the wonderful dog he was becoming. Somehow, this sweet, gentle boy is still waiting for his family. We think it’s time to change that.

When Weeman first arrived at the shelter, he had experienced very little of the world. Simple things—being touched, meeting new people, going for walks—were unfamiliar and a little frightening. But day by day Weeman has blossomed into a dog who is learning that people can be trusted and life can be full of good things.

Today, Weeman happily heads out for his favorite “sniffaris,” exploring every scent with quiet curiosity. He enjoys treats and has become increasingly comfortable with affection from the people he knows. He gets along well with other dogs and draws confidence from their company. Thanks to generous community support, Weeman had surgery a few months ago to correct a painful condition and has healed beautifully. He’s healthy, comfortable, and ready to begin his new life.

Weeman isn’t the kind of dog who overwhelms you with exuberance the moment you meet him. He’s something different—and, in many ways, something special. He’s the kind of companion who quietly earns your trust as you earn his, forming the deep, lasting bond that comes from patience and understanding. Watching him grow more confident has been one of the great joys for the volunteers who know him.

After all these months, Weeman deserves more than another day in a kennel. He deserves a couch to curl up on, familiar walking trails to explore, and a family that will celebrate each new milestone with him. For the person willing to give him that chance, Weeman promises to be one of those dogs whose gratitude is measured not in grand gestures, but in quiet loyalty that lasts a lifetime.

All dogs available for adoption at the Calaveras Animal Shelter are up to date on their routine vaccinations and will be microchipped. All unaltered dogs must be spayed or neutered before they can go home with you.

Animal Services has a Fee Flexibility Program!
The shelter is currently over 80% capacity, so adoption fees are reduced: just $40 for dogs and $30 for cats. Cats who arrive at the shelter already altered can be adopted for only $10. With the 55-5-5 Program, adopters age 55+ can adopt a pet over 5 years old for just $5.

Sep 12: Free Dog & Cat Rabies Vaccine Clinic, from 9-11:30 AM at Spence Ranch Feed, 1291 CA-49, Angels Camp. Dogs must be leashed, cats must be in carriers.
