This week we have some video clips of our efforts this week and we also leveled out one of our water storage tanks and getting ready to go into “production” where we will at least have sanitary, clean water for dishes, cleaning, showers etc. Probably not going to be used for drinking water until we have in in use for awhile and can get water tested etc.
There was a widespread power outage in our area yesterday that backed up our rendering and posting of our weekly video is being posted a day late this week.
Continuing on in our batch processing topic from last week. In many instances you can get cost savings from running batch processing systems to start off with. For our water system we have two 300 gallon tanks were were are going to fill one. Dose it with a bit of chlorine, filter it and finally hit it with a UV light to get it finished off and ready to go.
As that 300 gallons is being used we will fill the second take dose it etc. So it will take us a few minutes each week to keep it running but our start up costs on the system are only a few hundred dollars total.
Luckily we have good seasonal springs on the parcels we are working on. Where the Chainsaw Cabin is there is several gallons a minute coming out of the hill behind the cabin for several months a year. From August till November there is still water but not high volume or ideal.
Next year we would like to put a large storage tank at the top of the hill that we can fill from the spring when is fully flowing to help get through the drier months.
Not a fun topic but one that has to be dealt with . The traditional route can cost you thousands or tens of thousands of dollars. Going forward that can still be an option for you but let’s get you going on your project now.
Thanks for joining us for week two. Next week we finally start working on finishing up the Chainsaw Cabin. On projects such as this though getting your basic systems in place is just as important at the structures especially in the good weather months.
But it is August and winter will be here before you know it.

I have always had spring water (artesian springs) , in the east, Vt, Pa, now in Mt Ranch . I am blessed with 9 springs. There are 2 sub terranean rivers shown on the County water map above me, which feeds the springs.
I have put in spring tanks for a few, and piped them for irrigation water, for the barn, the highest has a 1200gal potable tank buried in a fire vault, that gives us water to our 2nd floor in our home for showers, toilets.
I don’t need to use a hydraulic ram here, which pumps water up hill using a drive pipe from a source , a tank or impoundment. In Pa I made a ram that pumped water up 50 feet to a cistern which then fed the barn by gravity. There are lots of hydraulic ram videos on Youtube.Very simple just common pipe and fittings.
If you have springs, and a slope available there is much you can do with the water. Springs can be developed with a piece of tile, and pipe, then you have water in a pipe. No pumps needed.
