San Andreas, CA…The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with Calaveras County Office of Emergency Services, CAL FIRE, and our local fire agency partners, is announcing that all remaining evacuation and fire-related zones associated with the Gann Fire will be lifted effective at 5:00 P.M., August 10, 2026. This includes any and all roadblocks that were previously in place.

Beginning at 5:00 P.M., no evacuation orders or fire-related zone restrictions will remain in effect within the Gann Fire area. Residents and property owners will be able to return to and access their properties without the restrictions that were established during the emergency response.

This marks an important transition from the emergency response phase of the Gann Fire into continued recovery operations.

CONTINUED ACTIVITY IN THE FIRE AREA
Although the evacuation zones and fire-related restrictions are being lifted, significant recovery and cleanup operations will continue throughout the affected area.

Utility contractors, fire personnel, county employees, state employees, and other agencies and contractors will continue working in the area. Residents should expect to encounter work vehicles, heavy equipment, utility crews, emergency personnel, and pedestrian traffic as recovery operations continue. Calaveras County Sheriff’s Deputies will continue to be assigned to the fire incident to patrol the areas.

With this in mind, we ask that individuals who are not residents, property owners, or otherwise conducting legitimate business in the affected area avoid unnecessary travel into the area. Reducing unnecessary traffic will help limit congestion and allow utility crews, emergency personnel, and other recovery workers to safely and efficiently complete their work.

For those who must travel through the area, please exercise patience, reduce your speed, watch for workers and equipment, and follow any temporary traffic directions provided by personnel on scene.

RETURNING TO YOUR PROPERTY
For many residents, returning home is only the beginning of the recovery process. Some will be returning to damaged property, while others may be dealing with uncertainty about what comes next.

Residents should understand that the lifting of an evacuation zone does not constitute an inspection, determination, or certification that any individual property, structure, or other location is safe to occupy.
Residents returning to areas affected by the Gann Fire should use caution and remain alert for potential hazards, including:
• Damaged or unstable structures
• Damaged roofs, walls, floors, and other structural components
• Downed or damaged power lines and other utility infrastructure
• Hot spots, ash, and other fire-related debris
• Damaged or leaking propane tanks
• Hazardous trees or limbs
• Other conditions that may not be immediately visible

Residents should not enter a structure that appears damaged or unstable. If you encounter damaged utility infrastructure, maintain a safe distance and contact the appropriate utility provider.

Residents who believe their property has sustained structural damage should contact the Calaveras County Building Department for guidance regarding property damage assessments, building safety, inspections, and permitting requirements.

PROPERTY DAMAGE ASSESSMENT
The County will continue its recovery efforts, including the assessment and documentation of fire-related property damage.

Property owners should document damage to their homes, structures, vehicles, and other property when it is safe to do so. Photographs and other documentation may be helpful when working with insurance providers or seeking potential disaster assistance.

ANIMAL AND LIVESTOCK RECOVERY
Residents who lost, evacuated or transported livestock during the Gann Fire should continue working through the appropriate animal recovery and reunification resources.

CONTINUED RECOVERY
The lifting of all remaining fire zones marks an important step forward for the communities impacted by the Gann Fire. However, recovery will continue well beyond the lifting of evacuation restrictions.

County departments and partner agencies will continue their work as residents assess damage, address property needs, reconnect with their animals and livestock, and begin the process of returning to normal routines.
