Statement from Mark Twain Health Care District Board Regarding Valley Springs Health & Wellness Center

Valley Springs, CA…As the leaders of the Mark Twain Health Care District (MTHCD), we want to speak directly and plainly to our patients and community.

Patient care at the publicly owned and managed Valley Springs Health & Wellness Center is continuing without interruption. The clinic remains fully open, fully staffed, and committed to serving more than 34,000 patients annually across Calaveras and surrounding counties who rely on us each year for primary care, dental, behavioral health, pediatrics, and women’s health services.

Some providers have chosen to resign and will depart over the coming months. Staffing transitions are a normal part of running any health system, and we have been preparing for it accordingly.

We have already added physician coverage, designated a new Interim Medical Director, and are actively recruiting permanent providers to ensure continuity of care throughout this transition.

We also want to address inaccurate reports circulating in the community on Facebook. Valley Springs Health & Wellness Center is not being sold, and no affiliation or ownership change is underway with Mark Twain Medical Center, Dignity Health, or any other organization. The clinic remains independently owned and operated by the Mark Twain Health Care District, as it has been for the past seven years.

We are grateful to the physicians, nurses, and staff who have built this clinic into an essential resource for our community, and to those who continue to show up every day for our patients. The Mark Twain Health Care District Board of Directors and Administrative staff remain focused on one priority as we have been for 80 years. Ensuring every patient continues to receive the high-quality, accessible care they count on, consistent with our mission statement.

Lin Reed, Board President, on behalf of the Board Members
