As National Cold Case Month Comes to a Close

San Andreas, CA…Over the past several weeks, we have shared the stories of people whose cases have remained unsolved for years. We shared their names, their stories, and the work that continues behind the scenes to find answers.

This month also gave us another reminder of why this work matters. On September 14th, we shared the identity of Anita Kathleen Ranker, who has remained unknown for years. Giving Anita her name back and finally providing her with a path home to her family is exactly why we continue this work.

Cold cases don’t always have easy answers. Sometimes it takes years, new information, new technology, or simply taking another look.

The work can also be costly. Forensic testing, DNA analysis, and other investigative services can entail significant costs. The support we receive from our community helps the Task Force continue to pursue these cases and follow investigative leads that might otherwise go unanswered.

September may be over, but the work is not. The people behind these cases are not forgotten, and we will continue doing everything we can to find answers.

If you would like to support that mission, the 5th Annual Calaveras Cold Case Task Force Dinner will be held on November 7th. Guests will hear from special speakers about true cold cases and some of the breakthroughs that have come from this work.
