East Bay Municipal Utilities District Assist (VMP)

San Andreas, CA…California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit will be assisting East Bay Municipal Utilities District (EBMUD) with hazardous fuel reduction burning in the vicinity of Lake Pardee and Campo Seco Road near the community of Paloma in Calaveras County from Monday, October 26 through Thursday, October 29, 2026.

The burn unit included in the treatment area encompasses approximately 600 acres. This prescribed burn provides critical protection against catastrophic wildfires by safely clearing away the dense accumulation of dry brush, dead wood, and undergrowth that acts as fuel. By mimicking the natural fire cycles that California’s ecosystems rely on, these controlled burns recycle nutrients into the soil, eliminate invasive pests, and stimulate the germination of native plants. This strategic thinning improves wildlife habitats, and reduces competition for water, ultimately creating healthier, more drought-resilient landscapes that are far safer for neighboring communities.

Weather conditions are forecasted to be favorable for ignition, and we will be monitoring them throughout the entire burning period.

The burn is anticipated to begin between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. and is expected to last 8 to 9 hours. The public may see smoke or fire during these times near Burson. CAL FIRE Personnel will patrol the ignited area until declared out.

    Okay, okay, I get it.
The economy sucks, gas prices are through the roof, the Iranians are winning the war, congress is going to flip back Democratic, and young people can’t even begin to think about buying a house.

But HEY, look how I’m improving that golf course in D.C.!!!!!!!!!
