Dear Neighbors and District 2 Resident:

I am honored to be your representative on the Calaveras Board of Supervisors for District 2.

Our district includes the communities of Calaveritas, Glencoe, Mokelumne Hill, Mountain Ranch, Paloma, Rail Road Flat, Sheep Ranch, West Point, Wilseyville as well as parts of San Andreas.

I would like to thank Supervisor Chris Wright for his service to our community. Chris has worked hard for Calaveras County, leading on issues such as establishing a Wild and Scenic designation for the the Mokelumne River, keeping our libraries open, advocating that our community plans be included in the County General Plan, establishing a temporary cannabis ordinance and helping our community recover from the Butte Fire. Thank you Chris!

I have worked hard to learn about the different communities of our district. Through campaign and community events, I have gotten to know many of you and we have discussed the variety of issues facing our community. The towns in District 2 all have unique characteristics and characters, but we share many common values and goals. We share a desire to make our communities stronger, healthier, happier and more secure. We want to maintain our rural character and independence, but recognize that none of the challenges we face as a community can be overcome alone. The Butte Fire is still very raw in our memories and our communities are still struggling to recover. Our recovery will take time, perhaps many years as we rebuild homes, work to prevent future fires and rebuild our infrastructure. Rebuilding must happen in such as way that we are stronger. It will take a steadfast determination to reach our goals, but together, we will get it done.

As many of you learned during my campaign, I am a fifth generation resident of Calaveras County, where my family settled over 150 years ago and began mining and raising cattle around Mokelumne Hill. I currently live with my wife of 20 years and our two sons in Paloma where we ranch and run a small business. I have a diverse professional background having served as an Officer in the US Army Reserve, a Peace Corps Volunteer in Paraguay and worked for the University of California where I began as a student at UC Berkeley and eventually became the Founding Vice Chancellor of UC Merced. My work experience taught me how to negotiate among varied stakeholders, how to include the community in decision making, how to encourage economic development and how to plan for the long term impact of current choices. I will use my personal history in the county and my professional experience to be an effective representative to the County and State on behalf of District 2.

I welcome your input and advice. My office is located in Mokelumne Hill and I will be available to meet to discuss issues that are important to you and discuss how we can make our district better. In addition, if you would like me to meet with your community, neighborhood group or group of friends, please let me know and I will attend.

I will keep my web site, www.jackgaramendi.com up to date and you can also reach me at (209) 286-9003 or email jgaramendi@co.calaveras.ca.us.

Thank you for your support and friendship and I look forward to working on the Board of Supervisors to serve our community.

Sincerely,
John “Jack” Garamendi, Jr.
