Angels Camp, May 28, 2014 – With the onset of summer, one of the area’s most celebrated events returns – the Angels Camp Certified Farmers Market. Every Friday starting June 5 through Sept. 25 the Angels Camp Business Association brings farm-fresh vegetables, herbs, flowers and fruits, healthy hand-crafted products, live entertainment, dinner options, desserts and a featured local winery to Utica Park from 5 p.m. to dusk.

“It’s so much more than a farmers market,” said Candy Myers, market manager. “People bring the entire family, and as the children play on the jungle gym and swings, parents relax at shaded picnic tables and visit with friends and neighbors they haven’t seen in a long time. It truly is a community gathering.”

“Most all of our vendors are local and family-run, so in addition to having lots of opportunities to enhance your health and living, you can visit one-on-one with the farmers, growers and crafters,” she added. “It just adds to the entire experience.”

Hosted by the Angels Camp Business Association, the 10th annual Angels Camp Farmers Market kicks off June 5 with Samba Breeze – Jim Lanier playing Latin and American Jazz and Pop – and wine tasting by Frog’s Tooth Winery. Main food vendors include T-Roy’s Smokeshack, Old School Pie (fresh made pizza cooked in their own traveling wood-fired pizza oven) and Stacy Pierson’s award-winning Slap You Silly Chili and Tacos.

Live entertainment this year includes such notables as Nicholas Lefler, Grover Anderson, Jill Warren, Cantamos, the Bob Eisenberg Jazz Trio, the Fabulous Off Brothers, The Kool Shifters, Cabby Band, Kiel Williams and Owen Ridings of The Hot Dark and HandyMatt and The Tools, an Eagles tribute band. Featured wineries include Twisted Oak, Renner, Ironstone, Four Winds, Boyle-MacDonald, Locke, Ayrael Vieux, Renegade and Stevenot. “We’re adding a Kid’s Night this year on July 17 with Jeremiah the Juggler entertaining kids of all ages and teaching juggling, and sponsor Umpqua Bank will be giving away ice cream from their ice cream truck,” explained Myers. “Our food vendors will feature more kid-friendly foods, we’re planning a scavenger hunt and Olga Moncada is going to help provide games for all ages.”

“And on Aug. 21 we’re planning a Living Green night featuring everything sustainable and energy efficient,” she added. “We’ll be highlighting organic and naturally-grown foods, of course, along with booths on solar, permaculture and green building while Cal-Waste provides information on recycling.”

With more vendors each year, the Angels Camp Farmers Market continues to expand its offerings to include delectable desserts from Villa Bakery, organic artisan breads, handmade garden art and birdhouses and 100 percent pure, unprocessed honey from Paloma Pollinators.

“Some of our vendors such as Rodin Farms and A O Ranch have been with us from the beginning,” noted Meyers. “Our newest fruit vendor, Cipponeri Family Farms, grows more than 20 varieties of plums and pluots, 54 varieties of peaches and many types of table grapes.”

“Where else can you go to one place and get so much?” Candy inquired. “Bring your family and friends to celebrate the bounty.”
