Altaville, CA…Nick Kristoff signed his official letter of intent to pursue his athletic and academic interests next year at the collegiate level at a celebratory ceremony held at Bret Harte Union High School on Wednesday, May 9, 2018. Senior Nick Kristoff signed with Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, where he will be playing golf. Kristoff, in his fourth year on the varsity boys golf team, greatly contributed to the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division V championship teams in 2016 and 2017, as well as three Mother Lode League championship titles in 2016, 2017 and now 2018. On May 3, 2018, Kristoff led his teammates to their first place finish at the Mother Lode League end of season tournament clinching their perfect season with a match record of 12-0.
With his second place finish at the CIF Sac-Joaquin Division V tournament on Monday, May 7 , Kristoff qualified for the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Tournament this Friday, May 11. Along with being named All-League in his sophomore and junior years, Kristoff added to his accolades the Mother Lode League MVP title for the 2018 season.
“Nick has always been a good player, but this year he put time into it. It has been fantastic to see him grow and mature. He was a leader on the team and I can’t be happier for him to go on and see him progress in college,” said Rich Cathcart, boys golf coach, during the ceremony today.
Kristoff shared, “If it wasn’t for [my dad], I wouldn’t be golfing. I love going out and playing with my dad. Coach [Cathcart] and Coach Ramorini have always pushed me to be better. Last year at the end of the season, Coach [Cathcart] said it’s my year for MVP. So I worked at it and I got it. So I am here and I’m excited.”
