Angels Camp, CA…On October 3, 2018 at approximately 4:21 am, the Angels Camp Police Department received a report of a person wearing a black hooded sweatshirt running from a business in the 1200 block of South Main Street carrying a pillowcase with items inside of it.
An Angels Camp Police Officer arrived at the business and found that a front glass door had been shattered and the interior of the building had a light amount of smoke in it. With the assistance of an officer from the California Highway Patrol, the officers searched the business and found that someone had broke the front glass door, stolen jewelry, and burned a blanket that was on display. The blanket had burned out by time officers arrived. The blanket was completely burned and the fire caused damage to a nearby desk. No other items were damaged by the fire.
Latent fingerprints were recovered by Angels Camp Police and will be sent to the lab for analysis. The owner of the business is working to compile a list of what jewelry was stolen and the value of the jewelry. Nearby businesses are working with the Angels Camp Police Department to check their video surveillance in an attempt to identify the suspect.
The witness described the suspect as approximately 6 feet tall with a thin build. At the time of the burglary and fire, the suspect was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and light colored pants.
An investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released at this time.
