First Five Camp Fire Fatalities Confirmed in Vehicles Overrun By The Fire

Paradise, CA…As reported at yesterday’s press briefing, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) has received reports of fatalities due to the Camp Fire. BCSO investigators are still working to confirm the reports. The task is difficult due to the fact that the fire is still active and there are many hazards in areas where fatalities have been reported.

On Thursday, November 8, 2018, investigators with the Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) located five fatalities in the area of Edgewood Lane in Paradise. The preliminary investigation revealed that the victims were located in vehicles that were overcome by the Camp Fire. Due to the burn injuries, identification could not be immediately made. Autopsies will be conducted to determine the circumstances of the deaths and to begin the identification process.

The Butte County Coroner’s Office has formed an interagency team to investigate and identify additional fatalities. We understand that many people are very anxious to locate loved ones and we encourage residents to check safeandwell.org, check with family and friends, and if you’re still not able to locate loved ones, please contact BCSO at (530) 538-7322 to request a welfare check or to file a missing person’s report.

Hmm…..I wonder if that was started by someone smoking a joint and an ember dropped in the dry grass.
