Angels Camp, CA…Bret Harte Senior Linda Crabtree took first place in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Voices of Democracy speech contest. Her speech addressed the theme: Why My Vote Matters. Her first place speech has earned her a trip to Sacramento to represent VFW District #13 and VFW James D. Piper Post #12118 from Copperopolis.
Linda had won at the local VFW post level, who then sponsored her competition at the district level. In winning District 13, Linda will join the other 14 district winners in Sacramento January 18, 2019, where her speech will compete for a $2,000 scholarship.
This will be the third time in four years that a Bret Harte student will represent District 13 and Post #12118 at the state level of competition for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Voices of Democracy contest.
The last time a Bullfrog had travel to Sacramento was in January 0f 2017 when senior Savannah Wittman made her second appearance and won not only the State competition but then went on to win the National competition and a $30,000 scholarship
“I am so honored to have been there both years Savannah has competed at the State level,” said Bret Harte US History teacher Jennifer Truman. “And I am looking forward to accompany Linda this year.”
The speech competition is actually done as an audio recording and judging is done based on the recorded speech submitted.
