San Andreas, CA…With an incredible 40 percent reduction in June, there is no doubt that Calaveras County
Water District customers are serious about saving water. This reduction is two-and-a-half times the 16 percent reduction required by the State Water Resources Control Board. The State compares current water use to the same time period in 2013.

“This is a continuing demonstration by members of our community that they are dedicated to saving water,” said CCWD General Manager Dave Eggerton. “We had such a great response with 18 percent savings last year, and this just builds upon that. I can’t thank our customers enough for their commitment to conserving water during this
fourth consecutive year of drought.”

The huge water savings in June were well beyond the District’s expectations, and may have financial implications if conservation continues at this level throughout the summer. The fiscal year 2015-2016 budget built in a 20 percent reduction in water use due to water conservation. With conservation levels reaching 40 percent, significantly
less consumptive revenue is likely to come in.

In light of the high level of water conservation and in response to widespread customer concerns, District staff will work with the CCWD Board in coming weeks to allow greater flexibility with irrigation schedules, which will help residents preserve the life of their trees and shrubs.
