San Andreas, CA…Sheriff Rick DiBasilio is pleased to announce the following promotions: Jim Macedo, Undersheriff, Chris Hewitt, Captain. Undersheriff Macedo has been with the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office for over 24 years. Mr. Macedo holds degrees in both Biology and Criminal Justice Management. He is a graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy. Mr. Macedo was named the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office employee of the year in 1998. He has been recognized by the California State Assembly and the California State Senate for his efforts in combating crime and serving victims. Mr. Macedo was also awarded the Medal of Valor for his actions while serving in the Patrol Division. In 2017 Mr. Macedo won the California State Sheriff’s Association’s “John Sully Second in Command of the Year Award.” Undersheriff Macedo has either worked in, supervised or managed every division, unit and team in the Sheriff’s Office during his career.
Captain Chris Hewitt has been with the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office for over 20 years. Prior to this Mr. Hewitt worked for a Sheriff’s Office in the State of Colorado. Captain Hewitt holds a degree in Criminal Justice Management and is finishing his Master’s Degree in Emergency Management and Homeland Security. Captain Hewitt has received multiple awards for Unit Commendations and recognitions from the California State Legislature. Captain Hewitt received the National Defense Ribbon for his service in the United States Marine Corps. Captain Hewitt served as an Infantryman in the United States Marine Corps during Desert Storm. Captain Hewitt has also been recognized for his long time service as a Commander on the Sheriff’s SWAT Team. Captain Hewitt also served on numerous other specialized teams and units.
