Jamestown, CA…National Night Out is taking place this year on Tuesday, August 6th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Railtown in Jamestown. Meet with local law enforcement officers from the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office, Tuolumne County Animal Control, California State Park, California Highway Patrol, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, U.S. Forest Service, Yosemite National Park and representatives from the District Attorney’s Office and Victim Witness.
National Night Out is a community building campaign that is held across the nation each year on the first Tuesday in August as a way to promote police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement under positive circumstances while bringing back a true sense of community.
This event takes place in a casual setting that will give the community an opportunity to talk one-on-one with law enforcement officers and to ask questions, express concerns and share information. We will have our K9 partners and several Sheriff’s Office vehicles at the event so be be sure to bring the kids!
Please plan on arriving early at 4:30 p.m. so you can be “All Aboard” one of the historic Railtown trains that will be departing at 5:00 p.m. The fee for this train ride is being donated by Railtown so is it free for all who will be attending National Night Out. You will be riding on a historic steam or diesel locomotive through California’s scenic Gold Country. The 6-mile, 45-minute roundtrip train ride will take you past the water tower from Petticoat Junction and transport you from the backyards of Jamestown to the rugged hillsides of California’s Mother Lode country. At the end of the line on Rock Spur, your train will pause as the locomotive uncouples, runs around your car on a side track, then re-couples to the train’s opposite end for the return trip to Railtown.
The Kiwanis Club will be selling hamburgers, hot dogs, tri-tip and drinks.
This year’s National Night Out is sponsored by Railtown State Historic Park in Jamestown and the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office.
