Coco Chanel is Your Calaveras County Animal Services Pet of the Week

San Andreas, CA…Meet Coco Chanel, a very pretty shorthaired Tortie of about five years of age. Miss Coco is what one might call a work in progress – she came to the shelter very frightened and spent her first few weeks hiding under a bench in a communal room. (We do know she’s come out to eat and uses a litter box as she remains healthy.) Once part of a menagerie with several other cats and small dogs, her world was turned upside down when her household was disbanded and those other animals with which she grew up were sent their separate ways. Coco is not aggressive with humans but is just learning to trust again and be petted. She also allows other friendly felines to be nearby. We feel that Coco would do best in a home with cat-savvy adults who can give her both the attention and space she needs to feel secure and thrive. It’s also important that she remain an indoor kitty as she’s never been out of doors and would likely run away in a new setting. We know there’s a home out there somewhere (yours?) who could provide this sweet and gentle soul with the life she deserves.

As with all cats available for adoption, Coco is up-to-date on her routine vaccinations and has been micro-chipped. Since she is already spayed, she is able to go home with you today!

Come visit Miss Coco, impound no. AO50947, and other cats and dogs awaiting their forever homes at Calaveras County Animal Services, 901 Jeff Tuttle Drive, San Andreas (in government center by the new jail). Animal Services is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday – Saturday (closed for lunch from 1-2 p.m.). For more information about this kitty, please email Animal Services volunteer Cynthia at clpino@caltel.com, Kathy at kbandy.co.calaveras.ca.us or call Animal Services directly at 754-6509. Please refer to Coco’s impound number above when making inquiries.

Currently, the Calaveras shelter remains open for visitors wishing to adopt. We are, however, limiting viewing to one person at a time in order to help prevent COVID-19 infection among people. Please understand there may be a wait for you to view the shelter animals, many of which still await their forever homes during this pandemic. Adoptable animals may also be viewed on the web at http://animal.calaverasgov.us/Adoptions and on the Calaveras County Animal Services Facebook page.

Animal Services now has a Fee Flexibility Program!

When the dog or cat population at the shelter is at 80% or above capacity, the total adoption fee will be 50% off––reduced to $40 for dogs and $30 for cats. The adoption fee for cats who arrive at the shelter already altered will be $10. With the 55-5-5 Program, any time an adopter is 55 or older and adopts any pet over 5 years old, the adoption fee is $5.
