Sonora Pass High Country Collision Takes Lives of Two San Jose Men

Kennedy Meadows, CA…Between the dates of June 15, 2020 and June 16, 2020, at an unknown time, a 47-year-old male from San Jose was driving a 2006 box truck along with his passenger, a 29-year-old male from San Jose, on westbound State Route 108, west of the Mono County line at an unknown speed. While traveling down the grade, the driver failed to negotiate a sharp right hand turn in the roadway. The vehicle traveled across the opposing lane and off the roadway where it collided into a tree and a large granite rock.

At approximately, 12:30 PM a passerby noticed the vehicle off the roadway and notified local authorities. Upon the arrival of medical personnel, both occupants in the vehicle had succumbed to their injuries. It was determined neither of the occupants were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision. This collision is still under investigation and alcohol and/or drugs are not determined to be a factor.
