Valley Springs, CA…On December 3rd, 2020, at about 3:35 PM deputies were dispatched to the 100 block of Cedar Lane, Valley Springs, regarding a report of juveniles fighting and a suspect pointing a firearm at one of the juveniles. Upon arrival, the deputies learned that two juveniles began fighting on Sequoia Avenue, Valley Springs. While the two were fighting, a juvenile spectator began recording the incident using a cellular device. James Robinett Jr. (18 years of age San Andreas) walked up to the spectator recording the incident, produced a revolver, and pointed it at the victim’s chest. Robinett Jr. demanded the juvenile erase the recording of the altercation. The juvenile feared for his life and complied with Robinett Jr’s demands. During the investigation, deputies learned that Robinett Jr’s friend was one of the juveniles fighting and did not want other people to see the recording.
Deputies collected witness statements and the cellular device used to record the incident. The cellular telephone was booked into evidence at the Sheriff’s Office. It will be forwarded to the Detective Division to determine if the video content can be recovered.
Deputies contacted Robinett Jr. at his residence and took him into custody without incident. During questioning, he confirmed he was present when the two juveniles were fighting. Robinett Jr.said he walked across the street to observe the fight when he heard people stating he had a firearm. He admitted he had a tool in his hand, not a firearm. When asked, he could not remember what tool he was holding at the time.
Robinett Jr. was transported to the Calaveras County Jail where he was charged with 245(A)(2)PC Assault with a Firearm (Felony), 136.1(A)(1)PC Dissuade a Witness (Felony), and 417 (A)(2) PC Exhibit Firearm (Misdemeanor). He is being held with a bail of $100,000.00.
