Threatening Bear in Meyers Residence Prompts Warning to be Bear Wise

Meyers, CA…On June 24th, 2021 at 10:39 PM, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a bear threat at a residence in Meyers. A citizen reported that they were attacked by a bear inside of the residence and that they had to shoot the bear with a firearm out of self-defense. The citizen indicated that the bear was bleeding and had fled the residence.

Deputies arrived and were unable to locate the bear. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife was notified of the incident and the last known location of the bear. On June 25th, 2021 during the morning hours, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife located the gravely wounded bear and euthanized it. An investigation has determined that no criminal activity had occurred.
