Alpine & Amador Counties, CA…The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and partner agencies reopened State Route 88 at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 16, 2021. The roadway had been closed between Peddler Hill and Route 89/Picketts Junction, and later from Peddler Hill to Kirkwood due to the Caldor Fire, which according to Cal Fire had burned more than 219,000 acres and was 71% contained as of Thursday, September 16, 2021.

Caltrans reminds the traveling public to exercise caution while traveling in the area, as crews and emergency responders continue to work, and thanks motorists for their cooperation and patience.
