Sonora, CA…A combination of recent rain, snow, and cooler temperatures has reduced the overall fire danger within the Stanislaus National Forest, enabling termination of the fire restrictions that were put into place across the entire Forest back in August and updated on October 22, 2021.
Stanislaus National Forest Supervisor Jason Kuiken says “Temperatures have decreased and the moisture content is higher, so I have decided to terminate the high and moderate fire hazard restrictions on the Stanislaus National Forest.” The reduced fire restrictions don’t mean people shouldn’t be careful when enjoying a campfire, Kuiken said. “When camping with a campfire on the forest, visitors must have a campfire permit with them, and we encourage them to responsibly make sure every fire is dead out before leaving it unattended.”
Kuiken highlighted Smokey Bear’s message to have a bucket of water and a shovel nearby at all times when using a campfire, and to pour water and stir until no heat can be felt from the ashes. “Smokey Bear has been sharing his fire prevention message for 75 years. It remains as true today as it did the first time Smokey told folks that only they can prevent wildfire.”
