Tuolumne Man Loses His Life in Vehicle vs Motorcycle Collision

Sonora, CA…On January 10, 2022, at approximately 4:36pm, 40-year-old Jamie Fernandez of Sonora was driving a 2006 Jeep Cherokee eastbound on Mono Way, just west of State Route 108, within the number 1 lane. At that same time, a 66-year-old man from Tuolumne was riding a 2009 Kawasaki motorcycle westbound on Mono Way, within a designated left turn lane, making a left turn toward State Route 108. Both vehicles entered the intersection at the same time, as one failed to stop for a red traffic signal. As a result, the front of the Jeep Cherokee crashed into the front of the Kawasaki motorcycle.

The motorcycle rider sustained serious injuries and was transported to Adventist Health Sonora, where he succumbed to those injuries. Ms. Fernandez sustained minor injuries and was transported to Adventist Health Sonora for treatment. It was determined the motorcycle rider was wearing a helmet and Ms. Fernandez was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected to be a factor in this crash. The crash remains under investigation and the identity of the deceased rider is being withheld pending notification to the family.
