The 47th Annual Hwy 49 Frog Painting & Renewal (This Year with Roll by Roll Action Video)

Angels Camp, CA…In 1975 local miscreants Keith Bibee, Larry Thompson, Buck King and others started the Annual Hwy 49 Frog Painting tradition. For the last 47 years the Frog proudly gets another fresh coat of paint to welcome visitors to the Frog Jump Capital of the World. This year’s crew included Keith Bibee as official observer and joke teller, Jake Bibee on the paint rollers, Larry Thompson & David Gallagher on traffic control, Ron Dwelley Frog Whisperer & promoter of all things Frog & Shana Heintz Nash, Frog Jump Committee Member & who has been an integral part of frog jumping in Calaveras County since the ripe old age of 2.

This year health problems forced Keith Bibee to be an observer and his son Jake Bibee and even Jake’s young daughters got into the act and family frog painting tradition.

This long tradition while acknowledged and even helped along by local officials, law enforcement and others is a strictly “Off the Books” affair. Thank you all who have helped keep traditions such as this alive that make our area such a wonderful place to live.

This year we attended and took short clips during the renewal process. This video is a half hour of frog painting, tall tales, jokes and more.

May this tradition live on for many more generations
