Sally as her friends called her, was a much-loved artist who painted in an impressionistic style. Painting flower gardens was her primary love. She traveled to Giverny, France to visit Monet’s Garden and her work reflected his style. Sally was a life-long learner taking classes and workshops to add to her unique skill set and talent in her artistic expression.

Color was Sally’s mania. “I paint in oils because they are so gutsy, excitingly rich, with unctuous colors and they provide great texture,” she said. She painted many California landscapes and preferred starting a painting in plein air as the French Impressionists did. After Sally was able to capture the light on canvas, she then completed the painting from photographs taken at the site and completed in her studio.

Her history includes being a successful graphic designer in San Francisco. While working in graphic design, she met “the love of her life” Richard Evans and moved to the mountains near Murphy’s. Sally’s youngest stepson, Dan Evans, of Murphy’s, remembers “from our first meeting when I was twelve years old, I could feel her love and caring. She radiated love, kindness, and a rare talent. I was blessed to have Sally in my life.”

Karen O’Neil’, a longtime friend of Sally, said that Sally was a member of Arts of Bear Valley from 1990 and was one of five of the original members at Iron Door Gallery. Karen stated that Sally was such a good person and had a wonderful sense of humor.

She will be missed by many in the community, please join us to honor her.
