Arnold, CA…On September 26, 2022, a volunteer member of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team (SAR) discovered that a theft had occurred from an Incident Support Trailer and that a Honda Generator had been stolen from inside. The trailer was parked within a fenced county facility in Arnold and the perimeter fence had been cut by the suspects. The suspect(s) had gained entry into the trailer by defeating a locking mechanism.
The missing generator has been identified as a Honda EU3000 Generator. The generator is described as a Honda 3000-watt inverter generator (EU3000) and is about 26”x18”x22” (LxWxH) and it weighs over 130 pounds. The generator had been used by Search and Rescue to provide power for the incident command during off-grid search and rescue incidents, communications, map making, and lighting in the field.
Although the SAR team is supported by a small number of Deputies who are assigned from the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office, the team is primarily staffed by volunteer members of the Calaveras Community. Equipment purchase and maintenance are mainly accomplished using funds generated by the volunteers during fundraising efforts. The replacement of the generator will consume funds that were already budgeted for other equipment necessary for direct search and rescue activity.
