Hey Good People!! 159 Inches of Pure Mountain Fun So Far This Season! Come Up & Play!

Bear Valley, CA…Hey Good People! 1″ of new snow has fallen overnight as the low moves in as is currently bringing lite snowfall to the area. Today we look to possibly see 3-7″ of new snow fall as the elevation for snow production is currently right around 4000′. Winds will be in the single digits today with a few gusts possible into the teens. A warm pocket of air will make its way into the mix come mid-day or so bringing the snow level up to the 7000′ range before this evening ahead of the warm front which looks to pass through around 1am or so tonight. So…….if the stars align we could pick up 6-12″ of new snow over the next 16hrs or so before rain infiltrates the forecast area.

Warming temps will bring rain into the mix for Friday and well into Friday night. Winds will also play a factor as the gradient looks to tighten up come Saturday morning so expect 15-2mph for average winds and gusts into the 30’s. New Year Day looks to be mostly sunny as we see a break in the system but stormy weather looks to return next week as the ensembles are agreeing with a wet beginning to the New Year and into the first 2 weeks.

These systems have complex elements to them as the shift between warm to cold to warm makes for some interesting albeit highly concerning avalanche mitigation strategies for all avalanche workers in the Sierra. Don’t forget to shout out good vibes for the Ski Patrol as well as all other outside operations during these next few storms as it will certainly give us a run for our money and keep everyone on their toes.

Peace Out,
Mattly
