Pine Mountain Lake Vegetation Management Program Fire Postponed

Groveland, CA…The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CALFIRE) Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit has postponed the prescribed burning operation on the Pine Mountain Lake (PML) Vegetation Management Program (VMP) site scheduled for today, Thursday, June 22, 2023. Evaluation of the site conditions for tentative ignition will occur after the Fourth of July holiday. This project is located north of Ferretti Road between Tioga High School and Boitano Road.

This Vegetation Management Program project was planned as part of broader strategic efforts to protect the local community and nearby natural resources. This prescribed burn will reduce understory vegetation, grasses, and noxious weeds, such as star thistle and medusa head. This will also effectively create a fuel break and enhance the fuel break system around the community of Groveland. These plans are informed by community and local stakeholder input and serve as a collaborative effort with a range of cooperators throughout the course of the project. This project adds to significant work underway throughout the state and brings California one step closer towards meeting or exceeding state fuels reduction goals directed by the California Fire Plan and the California Wildfire and Forest Resilience Action Plan.
