Sonora, CA…On August 13, 2023, at about 6:30 P.M., our Officers were dispatched to a report that a toddler was found playing in the middle of the road of W. Stockton St. Information relayed to our Dispatcher Center was that the witness was able to locate a vehicle in a nearby parking lot and found a female subject asleep in the vehicle.
The witness was able to wake up the subject and learned that the toddler was associated with her. Officers arrived on the scene and contacted 44-year-old Stephanie Carroll of Soulsbyville. During the course of the investigation, it was determined that Carroll had been involved in a vehicle collision where she struck a fence of a business in the nearby area.
Carroll displayed signs of impairment and conducted standardized field sobriety tests. It was later determined that she was driving while under the influence at the time of the collision.
Carroll was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs, child endangerment likely to cause great bodily injury and hit and run.
Carroll was transported to the Dambacher Detention Facility where she was booked on her charges. Carroll’s bail was set at $25,000.
Thanks to the help of the community member, no one was hurt as a result of this incident. The child was able to be safely turned over to another family member to be cared for.
