Stolen Dog & More in Burglary and Theft Arrest in Valley Springs

Valley Springs, CA…On November 18th, 2023, at around 5:00 pm, the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance on Chestnut Street in Valley Springs. The incident involved the detainment of Leeanna Corpening, a 25-year-old resident of Valley Springs, suspected of stealing a dog and other items from a nearby residence.

The property owner had left their residence unattended for a short period when they returned home to find that their house had been burglarized. Among the stolen items were jewelry, ammunition, and a coin collection. This was the second instance of theft that occurred at this location within the previous weeks.

The property owner had reported they were recently the victims of a dog theft. On the day of the burglary, Corpening was walking outside the victim’s house when she was confronted by the owner. Corpening claimed that she had taken the dog earlier to care for it as she was concerned about the property being vacant and three dogs being left unattended.

Upon further investigation, she was found to be in possession of a bag containing stolen goods from the residence. She stated that she had entered the property to gather evidence for the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office to prove its vacancy.

Further investigative efforts are underway to locate the dog and other items stolen from the residence.

Corpening was arrested on burglary and grand theft charges and was booked into the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office.
