In order to increase the pace and scale of forest-health and wildfire-resilience work in the Sierra-Cascade, the SNC developed the Landscape Investment Strategy and drafted Landscape Grant Program Guidelines that are now open for public review and comment.

About the Landscape Grant Program Guidelines: Scaling Success

The scale of the Sierra-Cascade’s forest health and wildfire crises has outpaced collective restoration efforts. In response, the SNC developed the Landscape Investment Strategy in 2022. Although significant progress has been made to restore the health of Sierra-Cascade forests and watersheds, the SNC recognizes the need for organizations to collaborate and plan across large, multi-jurisdictional landscapes to increase the pace and scale of this important work.

To respond to this need, the SNC has drafted Landscape Grant Program Guidelines to mobilize funds from the 2024 Climate Bond for regional projects, including landscape-scale projects developed by forest collaboratives. This inaugural directed grant program will provide substantial funding to collaborative groups working across multi-jurisdictional landscapes, advancing portfolios of restoration and resilience projects that address ecological and community priorities at a meaningful scale.

How to comment

Please email comments to guidelinescomment@sierranevada.ca.gov by Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at 5 pm.

The most helpful comments will identify the portion of the Landscape Grant Program Guidelines you are responding to with clear suggested changes. The SNC also welcomes general comments about whether the draft aligns and supports you and your organization’s goals and vision for the Sierra-Cascade region.

The SNC values and appreciates comments and considers them an essential part of the guideline drafting process. These comments help inform our work, strengthen transparency, and ensure diverse perspectives are considered.

Grant Guideline Development Process

Following the close of the public comment period, SNC staff will review comments and revise the Landscape Grant Program Guidelines accordingly. The SNC anticipates that the Governing Board will consider adoption of the Landscape Grant Guidelines at the June Board meeting scheduled June 3 & 4 in Trinity County. The meeting will be open to the public and broadcast online. Detailed meeting information and information about submitting public comments at the meeting will be available on the SNC’s website in late May.
