$122,000.00 Donated to Butte Fire Relief

COUNTYWIDE – Calaveras Recovers, a long-term relief organization helping survivors of the 2015 Butte Fire, has received a generous, $22,000 donation from the congregation of Good Samaritan Community Covenant Church of Valley Springs. Another anonymous donor also privately contributed $100,000. “We studied and prayed where we should put our money,” said Jeff Jolliff, church Executive Board chairman for the Good Samaritan Church. “Calaveras Recovers is doing some amazing things that fit with where we wanted to see this money go.”

Just this past week, two homes which Calaveras Recovers volunteers are building was wrapped with insulating TyVek wrap and heating and air is scheduled to be installed the end of
August.

“We have been lucky to get all of the labor donated,” said Allen Sender, Board chairman for Calaveras Recovers. “This donation from Good Sam will help us purchase supplies we can’t get donated.”

Building contractor, Phillip Miller, and his crew from the Golden Hills Mennonite Church in San Andreas have been doing much of the construction, but help is still needed. A licensed sheetrock contractor is needed soon to help shore up the two 960-square-foot homes.

Anyone wishing to donate skilled labor is encouraged to call the Calaveras Recovers trailer office at (209) 754-4606 where a volunteer will help get you in touch with the proper crew. Monetary donations are accepted at the trailer, located at the Mountain Ranch Community Park, or by mail to P.O. Box 395, Mountain Ranch, CA 95246, or via the website at www.CalaverasRecovers.org.

Fire survivors still looking for help are encouraged to contact Calaveras Recovers, whose volunteers have access to several grant programs for assistance. They can also assess families to see if they qualify for a home to be built – typically one that was uninsured or underinsured in the fire.
