San Andreas, CA…The Central Sierra Economic Development District (CSEDD) in collaboration with the Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce (CCCC) and the California Association of Local Economic Development (CalED) is being awarded a grant in the amount of $250,000. This funding will be used to establish an economic development planning framework in the form of the Calaveras Business Resource Center (CBRC).
The CBRC will be centrally located in San Andreas at the Huberty Building (7 Main Street) to help new businesses and sustain existing business. Partnering with the CSEDD and CalED, the CCCC will be implementing business programs and workshops as well as bringing in an Economic Developer through CalED.
The CBRC is a project brought together by the Leadership class of 2015 from the Chamber’s Leadership program. The idea of a “One Stop Shop” was presented to the Leadership class by Board of Supervisors Chair, Cliff Edson. The Leadership class presented their project to the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors earlier in the year and worked with Shirley Ryan, Calaveras County CAO, to obtain a 2 year lease for the Huberty Building.
EDA funding supports the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS). The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
