Vallecito Teachers Association Endorses Singleton For School Board

Avery, CA…The teachers of Vallecito Union School District are very proud and excited to announce their strong endorsement of Susan Singleton for the position of VUSD School Board Trustee. Singleton recently retired from teaching, after 20 dedicated years. She has earned the support of all her colleagues due to her ability to work effectively with diverse groups in a variety of arenas.

Singleton took on many roles over the years, contributing her expertise on committees such as Curriculum and Instruction Council, Financial Review Advisory Committee, Technology Committee, School Site Council, and the Vallecito Teacher’s Association (VTA) where she served in the roles of President and Negotiator.
About her years in Vallecito, former Michelson colleague, Michelle Wright, says, “She was not only beloved by her students, but a teacher to whom others went for advice. She has a depth of knowledge in areas of curriculum and budgets, and knows the history of the District that will enable her to make considerate decisions to continue providing the best education for our students.”
Singleton has earned the respect, trust, and support of her colleagues who know she has a unique perspective as a result of her vast experience.
“Susan asks questions, seeks answers, and studies and weighs the pros and cons of an issue. But more than anything else, she cares. She puts the kids first and always has.”, says Avery teacher Tobie Doyle.

Singleton retired just a few months ago, and initially had not intended to run for the Board so soon. No rest for the weary? She just felt like the time was right, and she shouldn’t wait.
As Hazel Fischer teacher, Linda Rasmussen, explained, “We have made good progress with our current Board, and want to keep the momentum going. Susan knows them all, and I believe she will work seamlessly with the current members and also the District Administration.”

Singleton understands the timely issues the District is addressing in regards to new language arts and science curriculum (NGSS and STEAM), Common Core Standards, the technology advancements with student devices and programs for instruction and diagnostics, as well as the inner workings of the district, like the complicated budgets and LCAP. It is clear she will not have the normally big learning curve many new members do after being elected.

“It is so exciting that Susan has decided to stay involved in the District. She retired and we miss her influence here at school. She would be a great addition to the VUSD Board, and I know she will make balanced and reasonable decisions for everyone with attention to all three school sites”, added teacher Michelle Wright.
The teachers of Vallecito Union encourage you to join them in voting for Susan Singleton for the Board of Trustees!
