Angels Camp, CA…CHP has released additional details on yesterday’s tragic collision on Murphys Grade Road. Christopher Dunivant, 29 From Angels Camp & Ellen Carlson, 79 From Sonora lost their .lives. Dunivant was driving eastbound on Murphys Grade Road, east of Fairview Park Court. Gates was driving westbound on Murphys Grade Road, east of Fairview Park Court. For unknown reasons Dunivant lost control of his vehicle and allowed it to cross over the double parallel yellow lines separating the eastbound and westbound lanes. Dunivant’s vehicle entered into the westbound lane directly in the path of Gates’ vehicle. Gates applied his vehicles brakes but was unable to slow or stop before the front of his vehicle struck the right hand side of Dunivant’s vehicle.
Despite the efforts of emergency personnel, Dunivant and Passenger Carlson were pronounced deceased at the scene. Gates and the other passengers of his vehicle were transported by ground ambulance to Sonora Regional Medical Center.
It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were a factor in this collision and this collision remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed this collision is asked to contact the San Andreas CHP Office at 209-754-3541.
