San Andreas,CA…Details of a new transit service, introduced at the Dec 13, Board of Supervisors meeting, can be found at www.calaverastransit.com. The service plan will be the subject of a public hearing on January 10, 2017. Based on studies about transit in Calaveras, and the proposal was developed with input from various County agencies and community groups. Citizens are encouraged to review the proposed routes and schedules and make their suggestions before the January 10th deadline.
The new Calaveras Transit routes and schedules aim to improve bus service for County residents and visitors. Highlights include more frequent service on a main line between Valley Springs, Angels Camp and Columbia College, and improved connections between feeder routes and the main line. Buses will be available to certain residential neighborhoods for service on request, and some routes will have more convenient times but will require advance calls to customer service.
The Saturday Hopper, which now provides travel between Valley Springs and Murphys five times on Saturdays, has been re-designed so that the number of trips to Valley Springs is reduced, but service to Arnold is included. An increase in fare is proposed for the Hopper, changing it from $2 for the base fare to $3. However, the regular monthly pass will be valid on Saturdays.
Comments on the proposed system can be forwarded to the Board of Supervisors, or submitted to Public Works, 891 Mountain Ranch Road, San Andreas, CA 95249, phone 209-754-6401, or emailed to transit@co.calaveras.ca.us.
