Angels Camp, CA…Greenhorn Creek Resort is seeking a Golf Course Superintendent (GCS) with proven experience in successful turfgrass management in the west coast. The ideal candidate will be a focused and detail oriented team leader with a passion for the game of golf. The GSC must be comfortable being very visible at and around the club, and seen as a partner to the GM, Head Golf Professional and club leadership.
The Golf Course Superintendent (GCS) reports directly to the General Manager. The GCS will lead and manage their department to ensure superb golfing conditions year round. The GCS is responsible for all day-to-day operations of the club’s golf course and grounds.
The GCS is expected to play the course to assess playing conditions of the course, and to ensure that it is consistently healthy. The GCS must be a natural leader, provide proper communication and direction to both members and staff, and show unwavering attention to detail.
Requirements The ideal candidate will be a Superintendent or an Assistant Superintendent with a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience at a golf course known for top notch conditions.
Successful experience maintaining Bent grass greens and other cool season grasses
Experience providing fast, smooth, and firm greens on a daily basis
Proactive, highly communicative leader
Recruits, supervises and retains maintenance staff. Conducts employee performance evaluations and exercises disciplinary action.
Manages an aggressive water usage tracking plan and irrigation systems and provides monthly reporting on retaining ponds, reclaimed water, and city water.
Supervises and participates in the application and recording of chemical applications (fertilizers and pesticides) on the Club’s grounds in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
Supervises and controls all maintenance expenses associated with Golf Course Operations, including payroll, supplies, chemicals and fertilizers.
Develops annual operating budget and plans for maintenance and capital improvement projects.
Maintains records and completes required reporting. Order parts, supplies and equipment as needed.
Schedules maintenance practices around member play and outings to maximize efficiency and minimize disruption to members.
Strong relationship builder with a history of excellent relations with their direct reports, staff, Golf Professional, and General Manager
Strong attention to detail
Strong desire for learning and staying up to date with advances in turf technology, irrigation management, and equipment
Understanding of all pest control techniques Minimum Requirements
3-5 years’ experience as a Golf Superintendent or 1st Assistant
2-year Degree or Certificate in Turf Management (or related field, like agronomy, horticulture, plant science, soil science).
Advance computer skills required for financial reporting and control of operations
Valid Driver’s License.
Pesticide Application License
Prefer Certification by the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the club.
