Angels Camp, CA…Did you know that the 39th District Agricultural Association Board of Directors are appointed by the Governor of the State? After a grueling appointment process they serve at the pleasure of the Governor. It is an unpaid position. They are ultimately responsible for every aspect of the District including the grounds, financial health, policy formation, the annual fair and much more.
Let’s meet this group of stellar individuals:
Talibah Al Rafiq – Talibah along with husband Ajamu own and operate California Cashmere. She has served as president of the Board and is currently serving as the vice president. She is the general manager of the Calaveras Enterprise. She has been on the board since 2004.
Kathy Campbell – Kathy is a teacher at Sierra Hills Education Center. Kathy has a background in marketing and journalism. She and her husband Mark make their home in San Andreas. She has been vice president in her tenure. She has served on the board since 2003.
Gay Callan – Gay is currently the president of the board. Gay served 2 other previous terms as president. She is one of the longest serving board members in the State, appointed in 1992 . She has been very active in the wine community. She and her husband own and operate Chatom Vineyards.
Evan Garamendi – Evan is a retired school teacher. She also served on the Calaveras Unified School board and other civic organizations. Her daughter and family are very active in the Fair. Evan was appointed to the board in 2012.
Gloria Grimes – Gloria and her husband Leonard live in West Point. Gloria is a native of Calaveras County. She is currently the tribal chairman of the Calaveras Band of Miwuk Native Americans. She was appointed in 2012.
Darrin Mills – If anyone could boast that they grew up on the Fairgrounds it would be Darrin. His great grandfather was the first Fair manager. He has been involved in some aspect of the Fair since birth. He and his wife Karin are active in FFA Boosters and many other organizations. He was appointed to the board in 2010.
Bob Trinchero – Bob has served on the board since 1999 . He has a background in education, finance and fundraising. He and his wife Pat were part of the development team for Greenhorn Creek in Angels Camp. He has served 5 terms as president. Bob was instrumental in the creation of Friends of the Calaveras County Fair.
Steve Wooster – Steve is a native of Calaveras County. He is from a multi- generational ranching family. He is active in the Agricultural community. He and his wife Pati ranch in the Copperopolis area. He has served on the board since 2010.
Board Liaison – Tim Folendorf – Tim has been involved with the Calaveras County Fair in a leadership capacity since 1981. He also served many terms on the board of directors. Tim was one of the key players in the creation of Friends of the Calaveras County Fair.
