Mark Twain Medical Center Enhances Patient Experience In The Emergency Room

San Andreas, CA…Mark Twain Medical Center, (MTMC) has announced the expansion of their existing partnership with EmCare for their emergency services department. “EmCare has proven to be an asset to MTMC for over four years,” stated Bob Diehl, Hospital President. “Our Hospitalists have been providing care for our hospitalized patients through the resources of EmCare in a consistent, thoughtful and quality manner. Their commitment to patient care and high standards is proud reflection of their good work. The emphasis is one of a shared goal of our ongoing commitment to provide exceptional care for our patients”

“Our patients will benefit from the value of a ‘scribe’ (who enters information into the electronic health record (EHR) or chart at the direction of a physician or practitioner) for our Emergency Room Doctors,” commented Dr. Petty; Emergency Room Director, “Often times, the simple task of documenting the care related to the patient can be perceived as distracting. Some feel that when the doctor is charting and looking away to focus on the documentation is not a part of the fact finding conversation that can lead to part of the diagnosis and treatment for a patient. Having a second person in the room with the doctor and the patient known as a ‘scribe’ can allow more meaningful conversation and face-to-face dialogue with the patient and their loved ones. The scribe has the responsibility to document the necessary information about the diagnosis and needs of the patient to expedite the care plan. Moreover, the scribe is committed to your privacy as much as the doctors and Nurses.”

“This is a historical time for MTMC,” remarked Dr. Lonnie Smith, Chief Medical Officer. “Having an extra support person in our Emergency Room will benefit our patients. We want to be able to enhance upon the processes in place for care while continuing to provide top quality care to every person that comes to us for care. We are very optimistic about our future and the new direction that MTMC is moving in as we prepare for the evolving needs of our community.”
