Teams Still Searching High Country For Charles Duston

Pinecrest, CA…Missing person Charles Duston was to snowmobile to his vacation cabin located in the Haypress/Eagle Meadows area on Sunday 4/16/17. The cabin is approx. 6 to 7 seven miles from Hwy 108 where his truck was later located. His wife reported Charles overdue to our office on Monday, 4/24/17 at approx. 1530 hours. TCSO Search and Rescue immediately responded to the area and located the cabin but Charles was not there at that time. A snowmobile believed to belong to Charles was later located approx. 2 miles away from the cabin with snowshoe tracks going away from the snowmobile. The search is on-going with teams on the ground and air support. The current search area is approx. 3 square miles in very challenging terrain.

The terrain is rugged and rough containing canyons and bluffs. Temperatures are in the low 40’s with low clouds and rain off and on. Snow levels range from 5-6 feet in areas with bare ground in others. Clouds are extremely low and preventing helicopters from flying or having visibility.

The following agencies have assisted in the search:
Tuolumne County, Bay Area Mnt. S&R, Contra Costa County, Santa Clara County, El Dorado County, Pinecrest Fire, CHP and Air National Guard.

Our hearts go out to the Duston family and we are doing everything we can to locate and bring Charles home as soon as possible.
