Major Injuries in Hwy 26 Head On Collision

Mokelumne Hill, CA…On June 30, 2017 at approximately 1643 hours, San Andreas Area CHP officers were dispatched to a head-on traffic collision that occurred on SR-26 just east of Sky High Drive. Mrs. Davis was driving her 2016 GMC Acadia eastbound on SR-26 at an unknown speed. Mr. Noble was driving his 1986 Suzuki Samurai westbound on SR-26 at approximately 30 to 35 MPH. For an unknown reason, Mrs. Davis allowed her vehicle to travel into the opposing lane, where it collided head-on with Mr. Noble’s Suzuki. Both drivers sustained major injuries, and were flown to Modesto for treatment.

Alcohol and/or drugs are not believed to have been contributing factors to this collision.
The cause of this collision is under investigation.

SR-26 was blocked for approximately 45 minutes while responders treated injured parties, investigated the collision, and worked to clear the involved vehicles from the roadway. With the assistance of Calaveras County Fire personnel, the eastbound lane was opened with one-way traffic control at approximately 1740 hours. At approximately 1814 hours, the roadway was completely opened. Thank you to the numerous motorists who stopped to assist at the scene prior to the arrival of emergency responders.
