Congressional Candidate Roza Calderon Stumped For Votes In Calaveras

Murphys, CA…On June 26th & 27th Democratic congressional candidate Roza Calderon made the rounds to build up a voter base for the 2018 congressional races. She hopes to become the Democratic challenger to Republican Tom McClintock. She held events or did meet and greets at the Murphys Suites, Manzatita Arts Emporium, V Bistro, Calaveras Chamber of Commerce, Cal-Fire, Ironstone Vineyards & the event where we caught up with her at Gold Country Roasters in Murphys.

On the Democratic side most of the candidates will have to raise run most of their campaigns as traditional this district is seen as a conservative district. If they can raise enough money and tip polling to where it is seen as a competitive race then outside money will follow.

Biography
I am your local candidate. Growing up in Lincoln, I graduated from Lincoln High School. I attended Humboldt State University – where I focused on geopolitical and cultural research. My work is in Geospatial Science and intelligence, working as a contractor with Federal and State Agencies on Environmental, Agricultural, and Defense projects.

My family came here during the civil wars that ravaged El Salvador and many other Central American countries during the 80s. My family was one of the few lucky ones who were granted a path to citizenship under the Reagan Administration.

Politics have been at the forefront of my life. Living in the US and the opportunities that I was afforded have not been taken for granted. The great thing about this country, is that we do not have to sit idle and let our government silence us. It is the job of our public officers to look out for the people.

I have devoted my time to help legislation that affects education in the Head Start Program, serving as the Chairperson for the Policy Council. Advocating for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programs, mentoring at public schools and teaching Girls who Code. Women’s Rights and progress are on the top of my list, I am a founding board member and Treasurer of Placer Women Democrats, the largest Democratic Club in the region. I am deeply involved with the Indivisible Movement, a co-founder and Outreach Director of Indivisible Citizens of Congressional District 4, a non-partisan group, composed of concerned constituents seeking change.

Hearing many locals leaving the state looking for new job opportunities, I immersed myself while I researched the life of the “American Migrant Worker.” I met and spoke with hundreds who packed-up and tried their luck in the oil boom of North Dakota. The phenomenon in the Bakken, who many referred to as the new “Gold Rush,” shinned light on an issue that affects many rural areas, whose residents have suffered due to dying economies in the logging, mining, and fishing industries. These same issues affect the constituents in this district.

I continue my work on legislation that affects our community directly; education, healthcare, immigration, economic development, and environmental issues.

During my research I lived on a rig site and worked in the oil fields as a geologist. I am a mother. Latina. Business owner. I am knowledgeable, determined, focused, and a passionate advocate for human rights. A woman of strong character and conviction.
