Rheumatologist Joins Medical Team in Sonora

Sonora, CA…Sonora Regional Medical Center welcomes board-certified rheumatologist Anna Khananian, M.D., C.M. who holds an additional certification in Internal Medicine. As the area’s first rheumatologist in several years, her goal is to reach out to the community and help educate individuals about the multi-faceted conditions of rheumatology and the available treatments.

Dr. Khananian attended McGill University in Montreal, Canada, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Immunology before completing their Joint Program in Medicine and Management, earning the degrees of Medicine and Masters of Business Administration. She also completed her residency at McGill, where she eventually specialized in Rheumatology. “It’s a complicated field,” she explains, “but I have always been interested in science and I am fascinated by the human organism, its physiology, pathology and ability to heal. Rheumatology is a developing field and every year we are discovering new therapies as we are able to look at the body’s systems with greater precision at a molecular level.” She added that she is eager to bring her knowledge and share it with her patients in the community. “I am excited to meet and get to know my patients and understand their expectations. As well as I want them to be actively involved in their care.”

When not at work Dr. Khananian’s favorite pastimes include reading, jogging, spending time outdoors and dancing with an exceptional passion for latin dances.

Moving to California from Canada Dr. Khananian is excited about this new chapter in her life. She is looking forward to exploring everything this state has to offer from its hills, lakes and hidden hiking trails to its vineyards, festivals and welcoming community.
