Lake Alpine, CA….Lake Alpine is a wonderful location for astrophotography and I’m not sure how many of your readers appreciate the variety of night objects that can be viewed from the shoreline of Lake Alpine. I’ve attached two photos that I took this past Saturday, Aug. 12. One shows the early night sky (thus the blue sky color) with the Milky Way and four meteors streaking through the sky. The meteors are from the Perseid meteor shower that peaked over the weekend. The other photo was taken about 45 minutes later and shows the bright Milky Way Galactic Center over the western side of the lake. Both images were taken on the north shore of the lake about 100 feet from Rt. 4.
