Pinecrest, CA…A Forest Service contractor began reconstructing the Pinecrest Day Use Area parking area and roadways today. Contractor KW Emerson of San Andreas, California, will reconstruct Lot 2, the parking area adjacent to the Pinecrest Lake Resort snack shack in this first phase of the project. “This is a multi-season project,” said Tim Hughes, Stanislaus National Forest’s chief engineer. “Work will halt during winter as needed due to weather and in summer we will shut down work to allow the public to use the affected areas during the recreation season.” The work will continue during spring and fall construction periods through May 2019, Hughes said.
Other work planned this fall includes constructing an overflow parking area (Lot 8) across from the entrance to Pinecrest Campground and reconstructing the large “J” lot, located adjacent to Pinecrest Campground’s “D” and “E” loops.
When work is complete, all Day Use parking areas, Lakeshore Avenue and Lakeshore Drive will be refurbished. Additionally, KW Emerson will refurbish Pinecrest Avenue and Pinecrest Lake Road in the vicinity of the Day Use area and create bus parking and long-term boat trailer parking.
This contract was funded by PG&E under their license to operate Pinecrest Reservoir as part of the Spring Gap Hydroelectric Project.
