Fire Update from a West Point Resident

West Point, CA…Very Early this morning West Point was hit with a fast wind driven fire that rapidly moved through a residential area of West Point. The Sheriff’s Dept evacuated approx 50 homes, and most of the evacuated have had to head over to Pioneer(Amador) evacuation center as highway 26 and spink road are both closed north/east of town.

Red Cross arrived in West Point and set up their evac. Center before 6am.
Calfire, West Point volunteer, Amador fire. American legion 108 ambulance, calaveras sheriff and the Red Cross are all one the scene with Calttans providing road controls.
Power is out to most of West Point.

The fire under control as of 8am, and calfire has a spotter and a helicopter overhead.
