Hwy 108 DUI Head On Collision Sends Four To Hospital & One To Jail

Sonora, CA…On Sunday, November 12, 2017, at approximately 4:12 am, 36 year old Salinas resident, Roberto Martinez Lira, was driving a 2004 Cadillac Escalade eastbound on State Route 108 through Washington Street. At this time, 43 year old Sonora resident, Alonso Solis Tolentino was driving a 2002 Toyota Rav4 westbound on State Route 108 approaching Washington Street. Due to Martinez Lira’s high level of alcohol intoxication, he allowed the Cadillac Escalade to travel over the solid double yellow lines into the westbound lanes, directly into the path of Solis Tolentino. Subsequently, the vehicles collided head-on.

Solis Tolentino was transported to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto to be treated for major injuries. Martinez Lira’s passengers, 47 year old Alejandro Bonilla and 18 year old Bobby Nolasco, were transported to Adventist Health in Sonora to be treated for moderate and minor injuries. Roberto Martinez Lira was arrested for felony DUI causing injuries. He was transported to Adventist Health to be cleared for minor injuries and booked into the Tuolumne County Jail, $25,000 bail.
