Roping Kids into Agriculture Education

Angels Camp, CA…On February 23, 2018, Bret Harte FFA held their annual Petting Zoo Extravaganza. This event is planned for weeks by the Ag Science 2 class and one of the advanced floral classes headed by two committee chairs Rowan Perry and Dominic Santella. The event included a coloring station with a lesson on farming, animal mask making station, a small animal station, a large animal station, and a tomato seed planting station. We had a variety of animals which included rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, sheep, goats, and pig.

The schools that could attend were Mark Twain Elementary, Copper Elementary, Saint Patrick’s Preschool, and Special Day groups. The little ones really enjoyed the event and were enthusiastic about all of the stations which their “tour guides” took them through. The tour guides asked the kids questions about what they had learned at all the different stations, and they proved that they had learned a lot of great facts about agriculture.

Bret Harte FFA has this event to teach the kids about the basics of agriculture and how the kids can use agriculture in their everyday lives. Our chapter continued promoting our 2017-2018 theme”It always seems impossible, until it was done”.
