Sheriff’s Dept Says Beware of Solicitation Scams

Sonora, CA…From the Tuolumne Sheriff’s Dept….”This week our office has received numerous calls for service regarding people going door to door attempting to solicit money from residents. They may be aggressive magazine sellers, claiming to be raising money for a trip or for charity, the backstory isn’t always the same. We have determined this soliciting sales scheme is a scam. Last night, Deputies located a woman named Sierra Corbin in the area of Crystal Falls Market in Sonora after it was reported she was going door to door requesting money for different reasons. She was given a citation for not being an itinerant vendor and told to cease all solicitation. Corbin is one of at least five people believed to be in the area running this scam.

If a salesman comes to your door pressuring you, just say NO!

Ask for Their ID and permit. Purchase decisions do not need to be made immediately. Get the information, research the company and call directly to determine if it is a legitimate business.

As always you have the option to simply not open your door to unknown persons.

Always report suspicious persons and vehicles in your neighborhood to law enforcement.

If you have fallen victim to this scam and have suffered a loss, notify your banking establishment and monitor your credit for possible identity theft.

Please share this information with family and friends as some have already fallen victim to this scam.”
