Arnold, CA…Regarding the snowfall of the current storm in District 3 along Highway 4, preliminary reports indicated that over a period of 2 to 3 days, 3 to 5 feet of snow is expected with 7 feet in some areas. This necessitated opening the Emergency Operating Center at Station One and that the OES Director Michelle is working with the fire chief to ensure all disaster preparedness plans are at the ready and coordination with all departments so that emergency personnel will have resources ready and able to assist with the severe storm problems.

Ebbetts Pass Fire District Chief Mike Johnson immediately enacted an action plan in anticipation of the emergencies that may arise due to the severe snowstorm. This plan included the coordination of all department heads in determining anticipated needs for resources, available resources, and action plans for evacuation, weather conditions, and medical and public safety needs.

Ebbetts Pass Fire Department opened the Operations Center at Station One at 1037 Blagen Road to serve as a local warming station for the anticipated severe storm problems. Additionally alternate smaller centers have been established that could be made into immediate makeshift warming stations if needed. Ebbetts Pass Fire has outfitted their Utility Response Vehicle with a snow track system so they could accomplish rescue and aid missions over deep snow.

All activity is being constantly monitored by Public Safety and by County departments in order to provide immediate response for anticipated situations. This is one of the times that this type of cooperation in anticipation of an immediate threat of severe weather has been beneficial in preparing to provide the necessary services for our County, especially District 3.

Briefings are held twice a day with all department heads and public safety entities including elected officials of respective districts. Next briefing will be at 3 PM this afternoon to ensure that all steps are being taken to protect lives and property in District 3.
