Calaveras Students Walk Out For Safer Schools Despite Disciplinary Action ~ Tricia Slavik

Angels Camp, CA…Seventy students walked out of Bret Harte Union High School for 17 minutes today to demand a safer school, despite being handed detentions following the walk-out. Although the number seems small, it represents about 15% of the student body. The effort was led by Devyn Pryor, Riley Lowell and Claudia Loomis – all excellent students and not used to serving detention. The students were supported by a handful of parents and many passers-by honking in support. There were a few distractors who chose to use vulgar hand signals to express their opinions.
